Luthando (Lulu) Phiri is based in Bloemfontein and is completing her final year in BA Fine Arts at the University of the Free State.
She was born in 1995 and raised in Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal. Lulu’s art-making is concerned with the bodily environment, especially its transience. The use of rust in her work has been a continuing practice as it alludes to death and ageing. With paint as her main medium, she incorporates other mediums such as wax and found objects like rusted parts of old and discarded machinery.
